A Love Letter To My Friends

 Well hello there!

Last night I was binge watching OITNB as I have been for the last 3 days and it overwhelmed me with emotion. For those of you who watch, it was the Thanksgiving episode in Season 1, and for those of you who don't watch I suggest watching because it's amazing. Without giving away anything the episode made me realize how great my life actually is. I started thinking about how lucky I am to have friends (and family) that love me and how smart and lovely and wonderful and amazing these people really are. But then that made me think about how many times I actually tell them these things and I realized that it's not very often. So this is for you, friends.

We each wake up every day and do our daily things without much thought. We get through our days to then go to sleep just to do it all again the next day. We see things a day at a time because it's our lives and there's not much of a different perspective that allows us to see how far we've come. You might not see where you are right now as a fantastic point in your life, but I can.

Whether I've known you for 15 years, 10 years, 5 years or even less than 2 years, I can see your growth in a way that you can't. You can see how far you have to go to reach your dreams but you don't really see how far you've come. And as I sit here in front of my laptop I can't even begin to tell you how proud I am of you.

We all get down on ourselves and we all feel at some times that we're behind the rest of our friends. That they're doing such great things with their lives and here we are doing nothing. But you are doing something, you're doing something so great and amazing that you can't even see it. There was once a quote that I read that went something along the lines of that flowers don't compare themselves to the flowers around them, they just grow and that's what makes them beautiful.

Now I'm not here to call you a flower cause that's kinda cheesy and that's definitely not the kind of person that I am. What I'm trying to say is that to you it may only look like you've taken a step but you've done so much more than that. You've done something that maybe a year or 3 or 6 ago that you didn't think you'd do and you're doing it. Maybe it's not everything you've wanted to do but honestly friends, each and every morning you have the health and ability to wake up and there is nothing greater than that.

You might not be where you want to be for the rest of your life and that's okay, but you have come so far. Don't forget to see that growth and look back to see where you've come from. And there is not much more that I could want to tell you than that I am so proud of you for coming as far as you have.

Well maybe some other things too, like don't forget to pay your bills and do your laundry and cook something at home every so often, but ya know we'll just leave that to your parents.

So here's my letter to you:

Dear friends,

You have come so far and still might have a ways to go, but don't give up. I'm proud of you and I love you a lot.

Sincerely,
MacKenzie, or Kenz, or Kenzie, or Mack, or whatever name you use

Don't forget to share this with your friends just to give them a little reminder that they're doing something great.
